Installation Error: argument was out of the range of valid values

When running the installer, you get an error similar to “Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: entryValue”

This error happens when something on your computer causes a previous version of the addin to not get removed correctly when installing a new version. There are two options to resolve this issue.

    OPTION 1

This is the preferred option as it lets you get updates to the addin automatically. However, if you are not comfortable editing registry values, please scroll down to Option 2 below.

    1. If you installed Microsoft Office recently, please make sure it is completely installed. If the system tray shows the Office icon for installation, then you must wait until Office is fully installed. You may have to expand the System Tray in the Windows TaskBar bottom right, by clicking an upward pointing arrow or chevron like icon.

    2. Uninstall any current version of the Encyro Addin if already installed.

      1. Open the Windows “Add or Remove Programs” settings: In the Windows desktop search box (typically, near the Start button, in the lower left of the screen), type “Add or remove” and click “Add or Remove Programs” from the search results. You may also manually browse tho this dialog from System Settings.
      2. Let the list of installed programs populate. Scroll down in the alphabetically sorted list to find “Encyro Secure Files and Messages”.
      3. If there is no entry showing “Encyro…”, there is nothing to unistall. If there is such an entry, click it.
      4. Then click the Uninstall button that appears. Follow any Windows prompts to continue with the uninstall.
    3. Open Windows File Explorer and browse to location %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0” (you may copy paste that path into the folder address bar)

Delete all files or folders in that folder. (Or rename the folder names if you may wish to restore these folders later.) 4. Open Registry editor: type “regedit” in the Windows Search box(typically, near the Start button, in the lower left of the screen). Among the results that appear, select “Registry Editor.” 5. Starting with “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” in the left pane of Registry Editor, browse to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VSTA\Solutions\7ba42eea-3cd1-4436-89b3-81a2b5f54ede

    1. NOTE: The last name “7ba…” may differ for you. If there are multiple names under “Solutions” click each in turn and find which of them, when selected, shows ProductName (in the right pane) with value Encyro.
    2. Right click this entry in the left pane and choose the option to delete it.
    3. In Registry Editor, browse to key Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VSTO\SolutionMetadata
    4. In the right pane, find the Name that lists an Encyro web address, such as apps.encyro.com… and next to it, in the Data column, note the value (such as {7B71D974-919E-45AA-9CDE-2E72207B665B}
    5. Now under SolutionsMetadata in the left pane, click on the value you just noted. The right pane should show some data with values related to Encyro (such as addinName = EncyroOutlookAddin).
      1. Right click the value you noted (e.g. {7B71D974-919E-45AA-9CDE-2E72207B665B}) under SolutionsMetadata in the left pane and select the option to delete it.
    6. In Registry Editor, browse to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
      1. Click on each entry one by one until you find one that shows Encyro related data in the right pane (e.g. you may find “C8D64C7C8498601C3BDC8A8CE7B34B55FEDD9705” under Uninstall to show Encyro data)
      2. Right click that entry (e.g. C8D64C7C8498601C3BDC8A8CE7B34B55FEDD9705) under Uninstall in the left pane and select the option to delete it.
    7. Now try to install again from https://apps.encyro.com/

    OPTION 2

If the above option does not fix the issue, or you are not comfortable editing registry keys, please install using an alternate installer from this link.

(Note that the alternate installer will install a version of the Encyro Addin that will not update automatically.)
